DLA Piper hires Shearman lawyer to head Liverpool banking team
DLA Piper has hired a senior associate from Shearman & Sterling’s London office to head its Liverpool banking and finance team.
John Delamere, who is originally from Liverpool, has joined DLA Piper as a partner in the city to be part of the North West finance and projects group, which is led by Liam Cowell. Delamere, who will head the firm’s Liverpool banking practice, specialises in structured finance and derivatives but will have a broad-based banking practice at DLA Piper.
Delamere had spent seven years at Shearman & Sterling’s London office and before that had spent around five years at Slaughter and May.
“I think my previous experience stands me in good stead for DLA, in terms of the breadth of my role,” said Delamere. “Obviously DLA, Shearman, and Slaughter and May are all very different firms but they have similar attributes.”
In a statement, DLA Piper’s international finance and projects head Bob Charlton said: “[Delamere’s] expertise in general banking and finance, mixed with a sophisticated level of derivatives and debt capital markets, will enhance our structured finance practice. His additional skills provide us with an opportunity not only to attract local finance work but also to deliver high-level services in conjunction with the wider national and international team.”

Ah yes, Liverpool, that well known hub for Derivates and Structured Finance! The SME's on the trading estates of Bootle and Birkenhead are crying out for that sort of thing. Good luck with that!
