DLA Piper equals Philly rivals with salary hike

DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary has raised it associate salaries in Philadelphia to some of the highest in the city.

First year associates will now receive $125,000 a year backdated to 1 January.

Each associate level after the fourth year will received a $10,000 increase, taking the basic salary for eleventh year associates to $210,000. Second year associate salaries have increased to $130,000, third year to $135,000 and fourth year associates will take home $140,000.

On the suggestion of its associates, the firm has also opted to switch to a lockstep system of remuneration.

The salary hikes put DLA Piper on a par with Dechert, Morgan Lewis & Bockius and Woodcock Washburn in Philadelphia. However, DLA Piper’s Philadelphia associates remain behind their colleagues in other US cities.

As reported on thelawyer.com (20 January), DLA Piper increased starting salaries for associates in its major markets by $10,000 to $135,000. This included lawyers in San Francisco, Silicon Valley and San Diego, as well as Baltimore, Chicago, New York, Boston, Washington DC and Northern Virginia.
