Veale Wasbrough grossed £18.05m in 2009-10, but its November 2009 merger with Vizards Tweedie will eventually bring £4.5m of billings to the Bristol firm. The extra £2.5m in revenue is Vizards’ billings from 16 November 2009 to the year-end, making a total of £20.5m.
However, the Bristol end’s revenue dipped by £1m, mostly through a diminution in real estate billings, which stood at £5.1m at the year-end. Litigation turned over £2.9m and corporate £2.3m.
The firm is aiming for considerable growth this year and is targeting £25m.
The Vizards deal gave Veale a credible London base and a substantial private client business, enhancing the existing £3m education and charities practice: the firm acts for more than 800 private schools, a third of which are inside the M25.
Net profit was £5.1m and equity is held by 15 out of 45 partners (up from 31 total partners in 2008-09).
Around three Vizards partners transferred into the equity following the merger. The firm operates a five-year lockstep with the spread ranging from £100,000 to £305,000. The vast majority of the partners are at plateau level, bringing the average profit per equity partner to £304,000.
