Scottish private client boutique Turcan Connell had a reasonable year in 2009-10, although its practice continued to suffer from the knock-on effect of the dearth of bank lending.
Turnover nudged up to £21.9m, while net profit was down by almost 10 per cent to £5.4m. This gave the firm a profit margin of 25 per cent, down slightly from 27 per cent the previous year.
Partners took home an average profit share of £450,000, with those at the bottom of the equity receiving £245,000 and those at the top pocketing £545,000.
While the firm’s main focus is private client, it also has a charities practice and acts for a variety of landowners.
Like most firms’, many of Turcan Connell’s clients have suffered as a result of the recession, meaning the double-digit growth it experienced at the beginning of the decade, after it spun out of Dundas & Wilson, has not been repeated in the past two years.
The firm operates a modified lockstep and has put an increasing emphasis on partner performance over the past few years.
