Total revenue at Trethowans declined slightly during 2009-10, down to £8.3m compared with £8.4m a year before.

Managing partner Simon Rhodes says revenues had remained flat throughout a significant proportion of the year, with work picking up only in the last quarter. Nevertheless, the firm’s average profit per equity partner came in at £330,000 with a net profit of £2.64m.

Trethowans’ litigation practice accounted for 41 per cent of its income, with its property practice contributing 30 per cent.

Clients include insurance broker Endsleigh, Santander Mortgages and Ladbrokes.

The Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) made a reference to the European Court of Justice as to whether, in order to claim the benefit of the derogation from the requirement of continuity of service under Directive 2003/88 art.17(3)(c), the requirement for continuity of service had to be made out separately as regards each right under the directive from which derogation is made.
