At £13.9m, Thomson Snell & Passmore’s turnover was up by 2.2 per cent on the 2008-09 financial year’s, which runs from 5 June). The Tunbridge Wells-headquartered firm makes the bulk of its income, 40 per cent, through commercial work, with private client, particularly court protection cases, contributing a sizeable 29 per cent.

The 36-partner (18 equity) firm opened an office in the Thames Gateway two years ago to get closer to corporate clients, but its Tunbridge Wells base continues to serve it well. One of the firm’s largest recent deals was acting for Cath Kidston on the designer’s £106m leveraged buyout.
