Spalding-headquartered firm Roythornes had a limited exposure to the recession. The agriculture-focused firm’s gross fees were up by almost 3 per cent on last year at £10.6m, while net profit was a respectable £3.3m.
But the 25-partner firm does have an active property development practice that was naturally hurt by the recession. Roythornes combatted this by cutting costs by around £1m, a figure that included some redundancies.
As well as capitalising on its reputation in agriculture and food production, the firm, which also has offices in Nottingham, Newmarket and Peterborough (the latter via a merger in 2008), has used its farming connections to move into renewable energy and international work.
