Having absorbed the costs of two rounds of redundancies during 2008-09, the past year was one of consolidation for Nelsons. Total revenue fell to £11.8m from £12.1m the year before and £13.5m in 2007-08.
The broad-based East Midlands firm continued to perform well in personal injury and litigation, while its property and corporate departments showed only marginal improvement on a difficult 2008-09. Nelsons incorporated into a limited company in June, with its partners becoming shareholders. Short-term profitability, which would otherwise have held up well, was hit by the decision to take on leasehold costs incurred by its surplus property in one chunk rather than spread it over three years.
