Newcastle-based Muckle remains loyal to its North East roots, a fact reflected in a client base that includes the likes of One North East and Durham County Cricket Club. While there are no plans to open offices outside the region, it still attracts work from clients such as London South Bank University and Northern Ireland-based property developer McAleer & Rushe.
Despite boosting profit by 43.7 per cent last year, turnover has dropped by 12.8 per cent over
the past two years to £8.5m in 2009-10. Property remains the strongest practice, accounting for 31 per cent of revenue, followed closely by corporate with 29 per cent. Public sector work is another key focus, although this could be affected by the squeeze on public spending.
