Following a revenue spurt in 2008-09, when turnover grew from £10.7m to £11.5m, Kester Cunningham John’s fee income dropped in 2009-10 to its lowest level in four years following a fall-off in commercial and property work.
There were some redundancies: the number of staff decreased from 185 to 160 last year, but the partnership remained level at 28 (13 equity).
The private client and personal injury (PI) businesses accounted for 61 per cent of the total at £6m. The biggest single practice area outside PI and private client was property, at 23 per cent of turnover, or £2.3m. The margin was 15 per cent, giving an average profit per equity partner of £119,000.
