Like most firms Howes Percival was hit by the dearth
of transactions recently, but this was partially offset at the Midlands firm by a rise in contentious work. Litigation now accounts for £9m of Howes Percival’s £17.8m turnover. Employment is another growing area, now contributing 11 per cent of revenue.
In 2008-09 the firm made six fee-earners redundant, but avoided major cuts during the 2009-10 financial year. Instead it made a number of key hires, including new East Midlands private client head Jane Cowley from Harvey Ingram, part of a plan to triple the size of the offering by April 2011.
In March 2010 the firm also launched its first office in London with the capture of insolvency specialist Nick Oliver from Blake Lapthorn.
