Single-site Oxford firm Henmans is trying to shed its old-fashioned image.
With more than half of its equity partnership now female, including managing partner Julia Iball, the firm is already more progressive than most.
The past two years have also seen the recruitment of its first professional finance head, Matthew Keegan, nabbed from Allen & Overy.
One of Henmans’ enduring anachronisms is its September year-end. In 2008-09 the firm posted a revenue of £9.5m, up from £9.2m in 2007-08. At press time, with much of the final quarter still to go, the firm expects 2009-10’s figure to come in at around £9.6m.
Professional and clinical negligence are still the firm’s core strengths, with clients including Zurich, Capita and Travelers, but property, corporate and private client are also growing.
