EMW Picton Howell saw turnover plummet to £8.4m from £10.3m in the 2008-09 financial year. The firm, which went through a merger in 2008, had hoped to “quadruple turnover to £50m by 2013”, but that no longer seems like a realistic goal.

Corporate work is EMW’s biggest earner, accounting for 40 per cent of revenue. This is followed by property and litigation, which make up 29 per cent and 18 per cent respectively.

The firm counts companies such as Santander, Travis Perkins and General Motors as clients. At year end work-in-progress was 88 days and its lockup target was 100.
