Winchester-headquartered Dutton Gregory is probably best known for its specialist childcare unit and niche clinical negligence group, which generated around 12 per cent of the firm’s £6.9m revenue last year, but drove up work-in-progress, taking lockup to 152 days at the year-end.
Unusually, the firm’s property team, which focuses on the higher end of the market, had a strong 2009-10. That helped average profit per equity partner reach £149,000 last year, a decent return for the 14 equity partners, who are looking to grow the business via bolt-ons and additional laterals.
The firm has taken over several smaller firms over the past five years and may continue with that strategy. It is also looking to build up its corporate group in Southampton.
