Buckinghamshire and Thames Valley firm BP Collins chief operating officer Karl Wingfield says he is confident 2010-11 will be the year that the firm begins to shake off the downturn.

At £7.4m the firm’s turnover was down by 17 per cent on last year’s, but Wingfield hopes the full-service firm will be able to make up half of that deficit by next year by continuing to focus on mid-sized corporates (between £5m and £20m) and private clients.

Wingfield readily admits that his firm has been in a number of merger discussions of late, none of which have proved fruitful. Undeterred, he keeps a map marked with every firm in Buckinghamshire, and every firm with more than five partners in Thames Valley, in his office, such is his determination for consolidation.
