After downsizing from five to two offices over the past two years and seeing staff numbers cut in the process, a dip in revenue at ASB Law might have been expected.

But the South East firm saw its 2009-10 turnover nosedive by nearly 20 per cent to £11.8m. However, with the firm having braced itself for the downturn, that figure exceeded budget.

Three-quarters of revenue is still derived from property, although ASB has more or less abandoned its residential conveyancing arm, with turnover falling from £2.5m to £500,000 in two years. Instead it has begun focusing on several sectors such as aviation, travel and charity. As a result it has had some impressive new client wins, including easyJet and travel agent TUI Travel.
