Dewey & LeBoeuf is the latest US firm to cut its partner promotions round, with six making the grade this year compared to 20 in 2008.
The firm has added four New York-based lawyers to the partnership, and one each in Hong Kong and Milan.
Corporate has received the bulk of the new partners, with four of the promotions going into this practice area. The other two partners are in the litigation group.
Last year The Lawyer reported that the firm had promoted 20 to partner adding three in London, two in Milan, one in Moscow and seven across its US network (9 December 2008).
On the whole promotions at US firms have decreased this year. Promotions at both Latham & Watkins and Weil Gotshal & Manges were down, with Latham adding 23 compared to 30 in 2008. Weil made up three compared to seven last year.
Last week The Lawyer reported that Sidley Austin halved its number of promotions this year, dropping from 34 in 2008 down to 15 (11 December 2009).
