Looks like people are still sore about the awful ‘So Solly’ skit sung by senior Dewey partners when they closed their HK office in 2003 and celebrated the fact with an incredibly politically incorrect vaudeville routine at their annual dinner in NY. I’m not making this up: Retitled “The Dirge of Long Duck Dong” in apparent reference to the stereotypical Chinese exchange student in the movie “Sixteen Candles,” Dewey’s parody accused the Hong Kong office of having a weak client base and said the office was now “chow mein” and was getting “the gong.” “You were the firm’s folly,” the song continued, “and now we so solly to be cutting off your source of livelihood.” (source: modelminority.com) Reply Link Anonymous 16 April 2012 at 16:18 Unbelievable story, but looks to be true… http://china.legalbusinessonline.com/investment-banks/deweys-endures-sweet-and-sour-exit/1416/19802 http://www.napaba.org/uploads/napaba/NAPABA%20DEWEY%20BALLANTINE%20RESPONSE%20FINAL%20032603.pdf Reply Link Anonymous 16 April 2012 at 16:52 Whilst some might rejoice at Dewey’s imminent collapse do pause to think about the hardworking associates and support staff. They will suffer far more than the gluttonous partners who orchestrated this self-destruction. Reply Link Anonymous 16 April 2012 at 17:49 I hope the gloaters never find themselves in such awful circumstances where others crow at the misfortune caused by others. Reply Link Anon 17 April 2012 at 14:32 The GREED, sheer INCOMPETENCE, pure ARROGANCE and utter COMPLACENCY of those at the top of Dewey & LeBoeuf has resulted in the destruction of a firm with roots back to 1909. Well done! Reply Link Name Email Cancel reply Threaded commenting powered by interconnect/it code.
