Dewey Paris head quits for King & Spalding

Atlanta-based King & Spalding has hired Dewey & LeBoeuf Paris-based arbitration head Eric Schwartz to launch in France.
Schwartz, who was managing partner of Dewey’s Paris office, is joining with arbitration senior counsel James Castello.
Schwartz, who has served as the secretary general of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, left Dewey after just three years at the firm. He joined legacy firm LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & MacRae from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in 2006. Schwartz’s hire had been part of the LeBoeuf Lamb’s strategic focus on international arbitration. In 2005 The Lawyer reported that LeBoeuf Lamb hired Arthur Marriott QC from Debevoise & Plimpton (5 July, 2005). LeBoeuf merged with Dewey Ballantine in 2007.
Schwartz’s move to King & Spalding underscores the Atlanta firm’s increasing commitment to international expansion. London office head John Keffer and Houston-based partner Reggie Smith are leading the launch, and London-based partner Ken Fleuriet will be transferring to the new Paris office.
Last year The Lawyer reported that the firm had been granted approval to launch in Abu Dhabi ( 24 March, 2008).
