Dewey & LeBoeuf bankruptcy star and board member Martin Bienenstock has jumped ship with a team of five partners to Proskauer Rose.

Martin Bienenstock
Bienenstock was one of the two remaining members of the office of the chairman along with Washington DC managing partner Charles Landgraf (10 May 2012).
Bienenstock, who joined Dewey from Weil Gotshal & Manges in 2007, joins Proskaur with fellow partners Philip Abelson, Irena Goldstein, Timothy Karcher, Michael Kessler and Judy Liu.
In a statement, Proskauer chairman Joseph Leccese said: “We’ve admired and respected Martin and our other new partners for many years. They’re nationally known for innovative and extraordinary legal work and dedicated client service.
“Our partners felt an immediate personal and professional connection with each member of the group. We’re thrilled to have them join our other premier practices at a time of dynamic domestic and international growth for our firm.”
Bienenstock said: “We’re very excited to join a firm with the reputation for excellence that Proskauer enjoys. We look forward to joining with Jeff Marwil, Mark Thomas and our other new colleagues to form one of the nation’s elite groups in business solutions, governance, restructuring and bankruptcy.”

Well, the article is good for a (hollow) laugh. "Steve is a selfless human being who gave so much to the firm and only wanted it to do well". Yes, sure, to the tune of a selfless $6m compensation package from an ailing firm which could not pay its other partners. And who awarded that to him? Even when there was a proposal to defer some of this, the deferred amounts were to be secured by a promissory note which would have given priority over other partners. I could be very selfless for $6m pa. Selfless? Jim of the Royale Family would have the perfect riposte.

Isn't it amazing that, just after the hose pipe ban was introduced, rainmakers have been seen all over the place in the last few weeks. Unbelieveable. I blame global law firms.
