Dentons plays on mid-market nous

Denton Wilde Sapte will tout its mid-market credentials as part of a new three-year plan to be launched in 2010.

Chief executive Howard Morris said the firm was well-placed to target “clients who’ve become weary of the billing machines of the magic circle and the weaker quality of some of the other firms”.

Dentons is one of the few City outfits to have seen revenue grow in the first six months of the 2009-10 financial year. Turnover grew by 3.5 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Nevertheless, this came shortly after the firm put 29 support staff roles under review (TheLawyer.com, 13 October).

Morris said the three-year plan would focus on “the way we allocate resources and invest”.

He added: “We’ll have to sit back and look at who our clients are [and ask whether] we’ve got the right people in the right place.”

International work now accounts for a third of the firm’s business and Dentons is increasingly emphasising its offices abroad, where four of its six new partners were made up this year.
