Dentons hires nine-strong competition team in Turkey

Dentons has boosted its presence in Istanbul with the hire of six lawyers and three economists specialising in competition.

Şahin Ardıyok joins Dentons’ local associate firm Balcioğlu Selçuk Akman Keki (Baseak) as a partner from consultancy firm ACTECON, bringing with him five lawyers and three economists.

Ardıyok represents the Turkish state at the International Chamber of Commerce’s Competition Commission and also represents clients on competition issues before the Turkish Competition Authority.

He also advises on PPP projects and regulatory enforcement activity in the energy, telecoms and life sciences sectors.

Baseak forged an alliance with Dentons legacy firm Salans almost two years ago (12 January 2012).

Dentons Europe CEO Dariusz Oleszczuk said Istanbul was becoming a “pivotal location” for both domestic and Middle East and CIS work.

“The team’s arrival marks a significant step forward in our long-term strategic plans to become the leading international law firm in Turkey and I am confident they will be able to build on our success in this market for years to come,” Oleszczuk added.

Oleszczuk is shortly stepping down from the Europe CEO role, to be replaced by fellow Pole Tomasz Dabrowski (31 October 2013).
