Dechert picks up Linklaters team for Paris IP push

Dechert has launched an IP team in France through the hire of Linklaters partner Marianne Schaffner and a team of associates.

Schaffner was head of Linklaters’ IP/IT team and co-led the firm’s global media and entertainment group. She joined Linklaters in 2000 and was made up in 2006. Her practice covers life sciences, technology and telecoms.

While Dechert has an existing life sciences practice in its Paris office, it has not to date employed a specialised IP team.

Dechert’s co-chair of IP Ann Caviani Pease said Schaffner’s focus on life sciences would be of “strategic value” to the firm’s clients.

Schaffner’s arrival brings the number of partners at Dechert in Paris to 13, with a further four ‘national partners’.

The US firm has been on a recruitment drive in several European countries recently. Last week it announced a double hire to launch in Frankfurt (17 January 2012) while hires in London have focused on litigation. The most recent lateral was that of Norton Rose partner Anthony Dutton (5 January 2012).
