Butwick will assume the role of managing partner for London effective from 31 March. He will continue in his role as a partner in the employment practice.

“We’re grateful to Steven for all his work and dedication to the firm over the years,” said Dechert CEO Daniel O’Donnell in a statement.

“His leadership and guidance in London have been invaluable. Jason’s an excellent choice to succeed Steven as he is a thoughtful and dedicated leader.”

Butwick qualified at Dechert in 1994 and was elected to the partnership in 2000. His practice covers all aspects of employment and partnership law, with a particular emphasis on the financial services sector.

Pointing to the “extraordinary growth” in the firm’s London office over the past 12 months, Butwick said he hoped to play “a key role” in the continuing expansion and success of the office.

Fogel will continue as counsel at Dechert but intends to concentrate increasingly on his membership of various university, museum and social enterprise boards and his role as an adviser to an international family office.
