Dechert is continuing to hire big-name players in the US securities industry as it pursues a policy of boosting its appeal to potential New York merger partners.
The latest recruit is a former assistant director of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Enforce-ment Division. Paul Huey-Burns has joined as a partner in the financial services and securities litigation group in Washington DC. Immediately before joining Dechert, he was a partner in the securities litigation group at Morgan Lewis & Bockius.
In September, Dechert hired Latham & Watkins securities partner Geoffrey Hurley to build its New York arm and in DC brought in the former senior vice-president and general counsel of the Securities Industry Assoc-iation Stuart Kaswell.
Dechert is keen to outgrow its origins as a Philadelphia firm and is known to want a New York merger.
