Former UK attorney general Lord Goldsmith said he is looking forward to teaming up with his US counterpart.
Goldsmith said: "I welcome Judge Mukasey warmly to Debevoise and look forward to working with him. Our shared experience in government service on both sides of the Atlantic will provide even greater strength to the Debevoise litigation and white collar practice."
Mukasey was appointed attorney general in November 2007, serving until January of this year when Barrack Obama's administration took office.
Debevoise has made it a strategic priority to strengthen its litigation department on both sides of the Atlantic with trophy government hires such as that of Lord Goldsmith, who joined the firm in 2008.
It has been a while since Mukasey worked in private practice bar a short return from 2006 to 2007 with Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler, where he worked between 1976 and 1987. From 1988 to 2006, Mukasey served as a federal judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, one of the busiest and largest of the US district courts, ultimately becoming chief judge in 2000.
