Debevoise & Plimpton hires 2Birds litigation partner" />New York-based Debevoise & Plimpton has snared Bird & Bird partner Sophie Lamb to boost its European litigation practice.
Lamb (pictured), who specialises in international commercial arbitration, joins as international counsel. Debevoise is also transferring international counsel Gaëtan Verhoosel from its Paris office to London.
Debevoise European chair of litigation, Lord Goldsmith QC, who joined the firm a year ago, said the addition of the duo means that London’s litigation practice has almost doubled in size in the past year.
“Sophie is one of the rising stars in the arbitration field and will add considerably to the practice,” he said.
“She’s a bit like me as she started off at the bar at One Essex Court, so proved herself from the very start and has an established track record.”
Of Verhoosel, Goldsmith added: "Gaëtan also has a proven track record with the firm. He has impressive qualifications - he has civil law qualifications and can also work easily in common law cases, like he has been working alongside me in arbitrations."
Goldsmith said Lamb and Verhoosel coming on board is not the end of the expansion for the London litigation practice, which is considering more lateral and possible transfers into the group.
