Lewis Silkin helps Hutchison burst O2's bubble Lewis Silkin has won a High Court victory for Hutchison 3G. Rival O2 claimed that Hutchison's use of bubble imagery in a television advert infringed its well-known trademark. On 23 March Mr Justice Lewison ruled that the advertisement did not infringe European laws on comparative advertising. Lewis Silkin's Giles Crown instructed One Essex Court's Geoffrey Hobbs QC. Wragge & Co represented O2, instructing 11 South Square's Richard Arnold QC.
Wedlake Bell secures Intuition Gaming investment Wedlake Bell has secured private equity house Intuition Gaming as a new client following the hire of former Boodle Hatfield managing partner Chris Putt last September. Putt led the firm's team advising on all aspects of Intuition's £11m investment in The Sportsman newspaper, which was launched last month. Putt had previously acted for Intuition while at Boodles. Field Fisher Waterhouse partner Andrew Blankfield acted for Sports Betting Media, the owner of The Sportsman.
BLP is back online with Playtech listing mandate Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has secured the mandate to advise on longstanding client software provider Playtech's £548m AIM listing. BLP head of corporate finance David Collins and gaming regulatory partner Hilary Stewart-Jones are leading the firm's team. BLP had been overlooked by longstanding client Betfair on its sale of a 23 per cent stake to Softbank Corporation, and by PartyGaming on its £5bn flotation, both of which instructed Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. BLP did, though, secure a gaming regulatory role on the AIM listing of Betex Group in March.
