Out comes the sun, and out come the lawyers raising money for charity. Among the most ambitious is Harrogate solicitor Paul Berwin, who aims to raise money by running in both a marathon and a triathlon.
Berwin is managing partner of Berwins Solicitors in Harrogate. He hopes to raise more than £20,000 for Cancer Research in July and September with appearances at the Nottingham Marathon and the Half Iron Man Triathlon in Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent.
Berwin, soon to be 50, is also doing two half-marathons, a duathlon and an Olympic-distance triathlon this year.
If you wish to support Berwin and Cancer Research, send your pledges to PaulBerwin@ berwin.co.uk or 2 North Park Road Harrogate HG1 5PA.
Across the Channel there are even more overly energetic lawyers desperate to stretch their legs for a good cause.
Last year, as readers may be aware, a number of Brussels law firms joined forces for charity for the first time to run the Brussels 20-kilometre race under the auspices of the ‘Legal Run’.
This year, 13 firms will again take part in the Legal Run 2006 on 28 May. The firms involved include Allen & Overy, Arnold & Porter, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, Herbert Smith, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Linklaters and Morrison & Foerster. In total, more than 100 lawyers and staff are expected to turn out and get sweaty.
Most of the firms will be raising money for the Brussels not-for-profit organisation Infirmiers de rue, which works to improve medical care for homeless people in Brussels. For more information, contact Emilie Meesen or Sara Janssens de Bisthoven at email@example.com.
