It marks the latest in a series of significant exits for Dawsons, which is currently holding merger talks with private client firm Penningtons (14 March 2011).
Yesterday, Cobbetts swooped for corporate partner Harender Branch, who left Dawsons along with two associates (14 March 2011). Last month Dawsons’ family head Suzanne Kingston left the firm for Withers, taking two associates with her.
Rushton joined Dawsons in April last year from Forsters, where she headed the employment practice.
It is the second partner hire for Payne Hicks in as many months. In February the firm appointed media partner Sarah Webb from Russell Jones & Walker (7 February 2011).
Webb took her entire client base to Payne Hicks, including private investigator Glen Mulcaire, who is at the heart of the News of the World phone-hacking scandal, having been accused of tapping phones for the newspaper.
