Davis polk and white & case snare visa ipo

Davis Polk & Wardwell and White & Case have landed plum roles on the $19bn (£9.55bn) IPO of credit card company Visa, the largest in US history.

Davis Polk capital markets head Richard Sandler and New York-based partner Joe Hall are leading the team advising the underwriters on the deal, which will offer 447.2 million shares priced at $37 (£18.61) to $42 (£21.12) per share.

Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, as well as Banc of America Securities, Citigroup, HSBC, Merrill Lynch, Pierce Commercial Bank, Fenner & Smith, UBS and Wachovia, are underwriting the deal. White & Case New York partners Ward Atterbury and Mark Mandel and London-based partner Colin Diamond are advising Visa.

Mandel advised Visa on the global restructuring of its Canada, US and Europe operations in 2006 in preparation for the IPO. Atterbury advised on the reorganisation of Visa’s global payment network.
