Canadian firm Davis & Co has bulked up its presence in Toronto with the acquisition of niche international business law firm Klotz & Co
James Klotz, founding partner of four-lawyer firm Klotz & Co, will lead Davis & Co's international business transactions group. Two Klotz lawyers will join the international corporate and commercial group, and the fourth will join the international art and cultural property law group.
Davis & Co is a full-service firm based in Vancouver. Although it is outside the 'seven sisters' (Canada's magic circle), Davis falls into the next tier, with around 78 partners and a total of 180 lawyers. It has offices in Canada and Japan.
The acquisition of Klotz is part of a rapid expansion by the firm. In July 2002, the firm acquired an Edmington office when it merged with Lucas Bowker White, and later it acquired corporate finance and securities boutique Reid Group.
