DaimlerChrysler takes GM star for GC role

DaimlerChrysler has hired the former legal chief at General Motors Europe for its new general counsel for Europe, Africa and Asia.

Gerd Becht replaces Peter Waskoenig, who left DaimlerChrysler in May this year. He will report to global general counsel William O’Brien, who is based in the US.

According to German magazine Juve, Becht has a long track record in the automotive sector, having been general counsel at Opel for seven years before joining General Motors in January 2000. Prior to his time at Opel he worked for what was then Daimler-Benz between 1982 and 1990.
