DAC Beachcroft has bolstered its Madrid partnership with the hire of Ruth Duque, who formerly oversaw legislation policy at the Spanish regulator, the Directorate General of Insurance and Pension Funds.

In her previous post Duque was responsible for drafting new legislation to govern the insurance market and worked on a number of bills relating to mediation.

DAC Beachcroft Madrid senior partner Enrique Gich said in a statement: “This appointment is another step in our strategy to offer clients in the international insurance market high-quality advice in dealing with regulatory issues in Solvency II.”

DAC Beachcroft’s Madrid office was opened in 1989 by legacy firm Davies Arnold Cooper (DAC), which merged with Beachcroft in 2011 (22 June 2011). The firm now has 45 lawyers and 11 partners, including Duque, in Madrid.

The announcement of Duque’s hire comes shortly after Clyde & Co moved to hire four DAC Beachcroft insurance partners to launch its own Madrid office (16 April 2013).

Insurance partners Ignacio Figuerol, who had been a member of DAC Beachcroft’s management board, Ricardo Garrido, Pablo Guillen and Miguel Relano all subsequently left the firm.
