He joins the firm after 12 years with Watson Burton in the Newcastle office.

Commenting on the appointment DAC Beachcroft Regional Senior Partner for Newcastle David Weatherburn said: “We’re always on the look-out for people that enhance our regional offering. In Newcastle, the firm is in the process of putting together a potent, sector-based real estate group and it was essential to include construction as a key element of that.

“In addition, there are clear synergies with our market-leading property finance business both in the London market and across the UK.”

Gordon, who will lead the new practice in Newcastle as part of DAC Beachcroft’s national construction and engineering group, advises on a range of contentious and non-contentious construction matters. His recent work includes advising Newcastle College on the documentation relating to the construction of its £12m sixth form college.

DAC Beachcroft’s construction and engineering litigation head Michael Blackburne said: “In essence, this represents an opportunity to develop a firm-wide team that is best in class. There will be a significantly enhanced national construction and engineering offering and an end-to-end service for clients through alignment with the insurance and real estate sectors. Health, education, our major corporate clients and local government groups will also benefit.”

DAC Beachcroft’s Newcastle office recently moved to new premises to provide additional room for its growing population. When it opened in 2008, there were just 30 staff; now, there are 80. Following the recent relocation, the office expects to grow to employ more than 120 staff in the next 12-18 months.
