Michigan-based firm Cummings McClorey Davis & Echo has become the first US firm to open an office in Ghana.
The firm has taken advantage of the fact that one if its lawyers, Joseph Nimako, is qualified in Ghana and has previously served as a solicitor and advocate for the Ghana Supreme Court and as a legal adviser to the Ghana Department of Justice.
Nimako will be the principal of the new office. The firm is renting space with local law firm Ntrakwah & Co, and plans to act for both Ghanaian and international companies.
Last year, Denton Wilde Sapte became the first UK firm to form an alliance in the region by hooking up with local firm Bentsi-Enchill & Letsa.
