Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) has appointed Stephen Volk as chairman
The former Shearman & Sterling senior partner left the firm last summer to take up a post as CSFB vice-chairman. Volk's ascension to chairman comes as part of a programme of restructuring at the banking giant. He replaces Joe Roby, who announced his intention to step down in December. Roby joined CSFB when the bank acquired Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, where he was president and chief executive. He will become chairman emeritus. Volk spent 10 years as senior partner at Shearmans, having been a partner there since 1968. He was replaced in June by M&A partner David Heleniak.
