US firm Crowell & Moring has continued its slow but steady growth in the European market by tripling its office space in London and hiring new lawyers from CMS Cameron McKenna, Weil Gotshal & Manges and Jones Day.
Cameron’s head of the Brussels office and international trade practice Robert McLean has joined Crowell in Belgium. The US has also recently recruited competition counsel Jatinder Sandhu from Weil Gotshal, and former head of the employment law group at Jones Day’s London office Michelle Haste.
Crowell plans to significantly grow both the London and Brussels offices to around 30 lawyers each.
On Friday it signed 9,000 sq ft of new office space in Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw’s Pilgrim St office, almost three times the size of what it currently has in Fleet St.
"The focus in London is corporate and commercial, and competition and regulatory work in Brussels," said partner Peter Teare, who opened the London office for the firm in 1991. Crowell will also however recruit in all the complimentary practice areas for its European practice to provide corporate support.
The US firm, which was founded 25 years ago in Washington with a breakaway group of 53 lawyers from Jones Day, will move on April 1 when its current lease comes to an end.
