Real estate partner Stevens takes over in May from Andrew Fermor, who has been in the post for the last eight years. Fermor will return to full-time fee-earning once Stevens begins his five-year tenure.
Stevens told The Lawyer: "I see my role as that of a chairman - to act as ambassador for the firm and be responsible for the concerns of the partners."
Stevens will also continue to work on the firm's 'Extra Mile' initiative started by Fermor. The scheme stresses the importance of client care across all areas of the firm's business.
The switch in senior partner completes a year of change at Cripps. In May last year, the firm converted to limited-liability partnership status. It also reorganised its practice along sector lines. Recently, Cripps launched a new regeneration practice and separated from its wealth management arm.
