Covington & Burling has added to its partnership with a lawyer from the world’s largest defence contractor, BAE Systems.
Peter Lichtenbaum, who was vice president for regulatory compliance and international policy at BAE Systems Inc (the US subsidiary of BAE Systems), will join Covington & Burling’s Washington office as a partner. He will concentrate on the firm’s international trade and finance practice, working in the defence, homeland and national security industry group.
Before joining BAE Systems, Lichtenbaum worked at the Department of Commerce, one of three agencies responsible for administering US trade controls.
“Peter’s senior-level positions at both the Commerce Department and BAE Systems have provided him with exceptional experience working with defence contractors and other companies active in the defence, aerospace, intelligence and homeland security fields,” said Peter Flanagan, management committee member and partner in Covington & Burling’s international practice.
“In particular, his expertise and senior policy experience with US trade control matters will be a tremendous asset to our international trade and national security practices.”
Lichtenbaum added: “I’m very excited to be joining Covington and working with an international team that includes four ambassadors and former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.”
