Insurance litigation partner Roger Enock and cross-border M&A specialist Martin Wright are expected to join the firm this month. They will take the partner count in Covington's European offices to 21.
Enock has been a partner in the litigation and dispute resolution team at Freshfields since 1992. He handled a range of matters, including high-profile claims by corporate policyholders against their insurers. His most significant cases include acting for Sony Pictures, Société Générale and others in a series of claims against film financing insurers.
Enock will become head of Covington's growing European policyholder coverage practice.
London managing partner Ed Britton said Covington had been looking for some time for a senior lawyer to spearhead the development of the insurance coverage practice in London and Europe.
"Roger did a lot of work for policyholders at Freshfields and is very well suited to the opportunity that exists in that area," he added.
Enock is the latest in a long line of partners to leave Freshfields over the past few weeks, the result of a major restructuring at the firm that has seen the equity partnership culled to around 420 partners from 520 18 months ago.
Wright, who spent a large part of his career helping to build Freshfields' Paris team, left the firm 18 months ago to pursue a career outside the law.
