The London office of US firm Covington & Burling has signalled its intentions in the City by hiring its first UK tax partner
David Hinds joins later this month from SJ Berwin, where he has been a partner since 1991. Hinds brings wide experience of UK and international taxation in relation to business transactions, including M&A, private equity and investment funds, joint ventures, group structures, financing arrangements and licensing arrangements. London managing partner Kurt Wimmer said: "We've always had an international tax practice since we started, but this just adds an additional level of capability to what we are able to do. "The London office is about to enter a new stage of growth and development, particularly in our corporate group, with a focus on more international mergers and acquisitions, private equity and tax work." SJ Berwin head of tax Michael Trask said: "We've very much enjoyed working with David over the last 12 years and wish him all the best at his new firm."
