Allen & Overy is offering first year university students the chance to shadow its trainees as part of its new programme A&O First.
The magic circle firm was prompted to establish the scheme following demand from first year students for work experience opportunities. It will run three First days through the Easter holidays through to the summer and expects around 20 to 30 students to attend each one, although is not imposing a set limit on numbers.
Successful applicants will then have access to the A&O graduate recruitment over the summer and will be invite to skills sessions, networking events and an online forum as well as encouraged to apply for vacation schemes and training contracts.
Graduate recruitment senior manager Sarah Cockburn said: “There are three reasons that we have pulled it together. The first is that we have been overwhelmed by the demand from first year students at law fairs asking what we have for them.
“Secondly, we are committed to providing access through work experience and this is a continuation of that. We now offer a work shadowing opportunity for every year of university student.
“The last one is that it gets to the top talent before our competitors. Having these programmes allows us to engage with the best students earlier on.”
