Hackney Council in London is waging a war against council charge and community tax defaulters with the help of communications software from DCA.
Using Remote LAN Node (RLN) software, recovery officers attending any magistrates' court in England can access files from CTAX Unix databases at DCA's municipal offices in east London to provide up-to-date print-outs on defaulters for the magistrate.
Setting up their laptop PC and portable printer at court, the officers use a Multitech V.42 modem to dial in to the RLN applications server, a Compaq 486 Deskpro, in the computer room at the municipal offices.
This then accesses financial information from the council's 3270 IBM mainframe based in Enfield and council tax files from a Sequent S2000 Unix fileserver.
