Council absence was unavoidable

I want to clarify the position of the council members who were unable to take part in the council meeting on the future of professional indemnity. The date of the council meeting was re-arranged in January, which caused difficulties for some members. Nine could not attend due to unavoidable commitments, such as clients' court dates, judicial responsibilities, and family bereavement.

I also want to correct concerns about the position of council member directors of SIF. We took legal advice on this point and were advised that it was appropriate for them to participate and vote in the debate. The four council members are council representatives on SIF, not SIF representatives on the council.
