This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
The new Crawford's City league tables show a significant increase in the number of corporate clients among the top ten City law firms, reflecting the rush of new companies to market during 1994.
The top ten firms had 20 more company clients this year compared with 1994.
Yet the increase in the number of quoted companies listed in 'Crawford's Directory', up by more than 10 per cent, has resulted in little change in the ranking order of lawyers, stockbrokers or financial advisers.
Slaughter and May maintains its strong lead, with 153 clients compared with 142.5 in 1994 ( 0.5 represents a joint advisership).
Adria Kinloch, directory editor, says: "Slaughters remains strongly at the top of the lawyers' league, as they have done for the last 10 years. They have a massive lead of 54 quoted companies over Clifford Chance, the number two in the plc client stakes."
William Underhill, Slaughters' corporate partner, says: "We must be doing something right. We obviously are not complacent about it. We are very pleased, and take it seriously."
Underhill says the firm's strategy is to provide a full range of services to the corporate client sector.
Eversheds scored 81 points on the table, representing the number of clients, but was not included in the top 10 because this score was the sum from four separate branches, says Crawford's.
Crawford's league tables are compiled from the number of clients listed in the 1995 edition of 'Crawford's Directory of City Connections' published this week in print and, for the first time, in electronic formats - CD-ROM and disk.
