For the first time in Fladgate Fielder's 200-year history, the corporate department has outperformed its flagship property team
An increase of M&A and blue-book work helped bring £6.7m into the corporate department compared with property's £6.6m. Other areas that helped increase the firm's income to more than £15m, 26 per cent up on last year, were litigation at £3.5m and tax at almost £1m. The firm's partnership operates a meritocracy but its 17 equity partners will gain an average of £350,000, nearly 50 per cent more than they received a year ago. Fladgates' head of corporate Nicolas Greenstone believes his department's performance will alter the image of the firm. He said: "We've finally put corporate on the map, changing the industry's perception of us." In 1995 corporate made up 25 per cent of Fladgates' income, compared with 39 per cent this year, with a growth of 336 per cent.
