Silicon Valley firm Cooley Godward has pulled off a coup against nearest rival Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati with the hire of its former head of tax.
Glen Kohl is one of the top tax and M&A lawyers in California. He left his position at Wilson Sonsini in 1993 to join the US Department of Treasury, where he held the country's second highest tax policy-making role.
It is understood that Kohl was considering a move back to his old firm. Since leaving Wilson Sonsini he has been co-founder and executive director of Ernst & Young's West Coast national office, and he joins Cooley from start-up PeoplePC where he was senior vice president and general counsel.
He has been representing high-tech clients since 1984, such as Amazon.com, GE Capital, Hewlett-Packard and the National Venture Capital Association.
