Pity the accident care specialist staff at RAC Legal Services. The chaps at the RAC, those who deal with claims following an accident, have compiled a list of the oddest requests they have received.
Favourites include: shoe polish after a client's shoes were scuffed in an accident; a bottle of champagne as a thank-you present for a witness to an accident; and Tulkinghorn's personal favourite, compensation for a headache, backache and whiplash, even though the car was empty when hit as the owner was in the pub.
"Claims for personal injury and damaged vehicles are commonplace," says RAC Legal Services manager Dave Bartlett. "The majority of claims are fairly straightforward, although some of our customers are blessed with a great deal of optimism about what we can claim for on their behalf."
