This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Q: How many lawyers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: How many can you afford?
Q: What do you get if you cross the Godfather with a lawyer?
A: An offer that you can't understand.
Alright, not all lawyer jokes are funny, but with only 79 days to go until the festivities of Christmas, it's never too early to think about where you're going to eat, drink and be merry - even if you have to go with all the lawyers from your office.
And if you're looking for a good laugh, The Lawyer, in conjunction with Jongleurs comedy club in Chalk Farm, London, is offering you the chance to come along to the club for free and hear some decent jokes from top names in comedy.
Rory Bremner, Harry Enfield, Frank Skinner and Julian Clary are just some of the acts which have performed at Jongleurs in the past. More recently, Phil Davey, Mandy Knight and Ed Byrne (pictured right) have been raising the laughter quotient there.
The Lawyer has 30 tickets to give away for a corporate evening at Jongleurs on Tuesday 21 October 1997. Each ticket entitles the winner to bring up to three colleagues as their guests to have a taste of an alternative Christmas venue, with the club also offering a No Turkey guarantee. Those eligible to enter are social secretaries or company, group or event organisers.
The format of the evening will be drinks at the bar and pre-show entertainment from close contact magicians, caricaturists and balloonists, with food and drink readily available. This will be followed by three to four acts from the cream of the British comedy circuits.
For any closet John Travoltas in the audience, the front tables will be cleared to make room for some hip-swinging and grooving (and not necessarily just for the amusement or entertainment of others) until the early hours.
The first 30 entries can enjoy a top night out absolutely free. To enter, simply send your name, position, firm or chambers address and telephone number (and your colleagues' details) to:
Dionne Parker, Marketeer plc, 2 Dolphin Square, Edensor Road, Chiswick, London W4 2ST, or fax your details on 0181 995 2374.
Or for an even more alternative venue for that special evening out, have you heard about the new sushi bar that caters exclusively to lawyers? It's called Sosumi...
